Killer Knife of the Week: KA-BAR Big Brother Combat/Utility Knife
The latest Killer Knife of the Week is the next generation and evolution of the venerable Ka-Bar USMC Fighting/Utility Knife. Yes, we are talking about the KA-BAR Big Brother Fixed Blade Knife. The Big Brother is a significant step up from the standard sized KA-BAR, it is just as good a utility knife as the old Ka-Bar Fighting/Utility knife but it's a superb fighting/combat knife.
Our test model literally came hair shaving sharp right out of the box--Ka-Bar really knows how to put an edge on a blade. The massive 9.38" 1095 Cro-Van steel blade is well done and very tough. The blade has been differentially heat treated, a step in the tempering process that gives the blade more strength. It will easily withstand even the most difficult cutting tasks and will still take and hold an extremely sharp edge.
The noticeably wider blade improves the overall handling of knife as well as adding weight that is beneficial when using the knife around camp. The most noticeable addition-apart from the increased size is the addition of serrations along the spine of the blade. The spine serrations improve the fighting capabilities of the Big Brother knife... back-slashes are wicked, and the double-edge makes it more difficult for an opponent to defend against or disarm you. The Big Brother has enough unsharpened spine along the last third of the blade for batoning. These serrations (NOT saw teeth) allow the knife to have a continuous plain working edge and still have the serrations along the backside to cut through tough, fibrous materials.
The leather disk handle is comfortable (works good when your hands are sweaty, wet or bloody) and feels great in the hand. The balance is perfect for chopping and slicing and decent for point-work. The premium leather sheath is outstanding. It's rides well, looks good and feels great.
If you're looking for a Bowie-sized "utility and fighting knife" then you'd be wise to consider adding the Kabar Big Brother to your arsenal. Utility and fighting is what this knife was designed for, and designed quite well. Get one today at OsoGrandeKnives.com.

CRKT HoodWork Survival Knife (3500) & HCK1 Hood Camp Knife (3510)
The CRKT 3500 Hoodwork Survival knife and the 3510 HCK1 Hood Camp Knife are two new 2014 mid-year knife releases from Columbia River Knife & Tool Co. Both of the Survival knife and the Camp Knife were designed by survival expert, Karen Hood and precision manufactured by CRKT.
The full-tang blades are made from a solid billet of field tough 1095 high carbon steel. The blades have been sandblasted with a black over wash and then sealed with a clear Cerakote blade coating for rust resistance, non-reflectivity and durability in harsh environments.
The 3500 Hoodwork has aggressive Veff Serrations while the 3510 HCK1 has a PlainEdge Santuko style blade.
The G10 handles are comfortable and confidence inspiring in hand. The handle scales are removable to lighten the load and they can be wrapped with paracord and then you can have another item in your survival kit. The holes in the handle of the 3500 Hood Work are for both weight reduction and straightening arrows.
An orange 550 paracord lanyard will keep your knife from falling in the brink during use and makes it easy to spot when laid down. When your in a survival situation you definitely don't want your knife to slip out of your hand.
The custom leather sheath supplied with the knives is made from vegetable tanned leather that will not corrode the blade.
The sheath is hand oiled for durability and beauty and then lock stitched with heavy-weight nylon thread. Both sheath will fit belt widths upto 2.5 inches wide and include a small 1"x3"pouch for a firerod, sharpener or other survival goodies.
If your hiking, hunting, backpacking or camping these knives will perform the duties required and ask for more. Another nice thing we like is that both of these knives are made in the USA. Checkout both of these hot new knives at www.OsoGrandeKnives.com.

Mission MPT Multi-Purpose Tactical Titanium Knife
The Mission MPT Titanium Knife was created from the desires and needs of multiple military units who wanted a light weight, high strength, non-magnetic, non corrosive tool -- a titanium bladed knife -- with a more compact and thinner silhouette, and with a "higher speed & lower drag coefficient" than the popular U.S. Navy MPK.
This MPT (Multi-Purpose Tactical) model is an earlier model when the late John Moore was at the helm of Mission Knives during their Glory Days. We found a few of these MPT knives in the corner of our warehouse.

Killer Knife of the Week: Cold Steel Voyager Vaquero XL 5.5 Inch 29TXVS
OsoGrandeKnives has long considered the Vaquero Knife series of folders by Cold Steel to be among the best knives manufactured over the past 20 years. So you shouldn’t be surprised that the Voyager Vaquero XL is this week’s Killer Knife of the Week.
As a tool, the 5.5 Inch XL Voyager Vaquero is a lightweight, super sharp knife that is appropriate in almost any environment from hunting and camping to hiking and general utility chores. They can also readily fill specialty functions such as a boat or river knife, chute knife or police/military and survival/rescue applications.
The Voyager series are well designed and very well made and any Voyager knife will serve the user well for many years. Materials are all very good and the action and lockups are fast and solid. With it's reverse S cutting edge, the Extra-Large Vaquero Knife is fantastic for quick slicing or tearing. The serrations are very aggressive and wicked sharp!
In Cold Steel's words: "The Vaquero Voyager Series folders all feature our distinctive "S-Curve" clip point blade style. They are precision flat ground to form a long, shallow "V" shaped cross section. This is ideal for shearing through thick, fibrous materials such as manila rope, cable, hose, belts, etc. The serrated edges form a sinuous double curve. This means that whatever material is struck with the inward curving portion of the edge (near the hand) will automatically force the remaining curved edge entirely through.
These strong, handsome folders deliver an unequaled fit and finish. They are carefully machined and hand fitted by master craftsmen who take great pride in their work. Feel the power of the massively strong locking mechanisms as you thumb one of these blades open. The deeply checkered, and ergonomically designed Zytel® handles are cleverly reinforced with enough rigidity, strength, and toughness to virtually last a lifetime. Double thumb studs on each side of the razor sharp blade allow you to open these folders with either hand in the blink of an eye.
For convenience, a black stainless steel pocket clip is included. This allows for safe and secure carry in any environment."
