The El Chete by TOPS Knives was designed with one thought in mind... chopping. It's got a full-tang 1/4 inch thick blade that's a full foot long, and it chops very well. Even though it's so large, the knife still weighs in under 2 pounds. El Chete is the first TOPS knife to be released with their wicked new finish called Acid Rain which varies slightly from knife to knife so each knife is unique. The sandwiched Micarta handles are thick enough to fill your hand like a hatchet or small ax handle would. The handle is well rounded for comfort and the black canvas Micarta underneath the green canvas Micarta adds even more to the aesthetics of this piece.
The sheath is an out-the-front design with all the bells and whistles. You just pull up slightly then out the front so that you don't have to strain to pull the knife all the way up through the sheath. There is a strap that when snapped into place, helps immensely with the retention of the blade. TOPS Knives also made it available with a rotating spring steel clip or a leather dangler attachment so that each user picks the right fit for him or her.

Skullcrusher’s Xtreme Blade (SXB) was designed for the Warrior Survivalist to aid in their survival not only in the wild, but on the battlefield as well. Designer, EJ Snyder is an Xtreme Survivalist and Adventurer in real life and as seen on TV. He is also a highly decorated, 25-year Army Combat Vet who served in the 1991 Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom. EJ knows what it takes to survive in a multitude of extreme situations from the wilderness to combat, and he has been tested and proven every time.
EJ wanted to design a modern day blade that honors the spirit of the pioneers of the past but meets the demands of an ever evolving modern world, and a tactical survival tool that is as tough, durable, and dependable as he is; one that every warrior, survivalist, and outdoorsman couldn’t live without. The SXB is the Xtreme Tool for any Xtreme Job!
EJ's quest for such a knife started on the Serengeti Plains of Tanzania, Africa while conducting a 21 day Xtreme Survival challenge on "Naked and Afraid". The knife EJ took with him, being the only piece of equipment he had, did not perform well in the field and became non-functional. It is potentially disastrous to be out there and unable to rely on your knife. Upon his return to the U.S., EJ tested many knives, sought out the advice of many top custom knife makers he personally knew, and spent countless hours researching all aspects of the art of knife making. A lot of influences, needs, and rigorous tests went into the thought process and design behind the SXB Knife . His 2 year journey culminated with the creation of his vision by TOPS Knives.

The latest Killer Knife of the Week is the next generation and evolution of the venerable Ka-Bar USMC Fighting/Utility Knife. Yes, we are talking about the KA-BAR Big Brother Fixed Blade Knife. The Big Brother is a significant step up from the standard sized KA-BAR, it is just as good a utility knife as the old Ka-Bar Fighting/Utility knife but it's a superb fighting/combat knife.
Our test model literally came hair shaving sharp right out of the box--Ka-Bar really knows how to put an edge on a blade. The massive 9.38" 1095 Cro-Van steel blade is well done and very tough. The blade has been differentially heat treated, a step in the tempering process that gives the blade more strength. It will easily withstand even the most difficult cutting tasks and will still take and hold an extremely sharp edge.
The noticeably wider blade improves the overall handling of knife as well as adding weight that is beneficial when using the knife around camp. The most noticeable addition-apart from the increased size is the addition of serrations along the spine of the blade. The spine serrations improve the fighting capabilities of the Big Brother knife... back-slashes are wicked, and the double-edge makes it more difficult for an opponent to defend against or disarm you. The Big Brother has enough unsharpened spine along the last third of the blade for batoning. These serrations (NOT saw teeth) allow the knife to have a continuous plain working edge and still have the serrations along the backside to cut through tough, fibrous materials.
The leather disk handle is comfortable (works good when your hands are sweaty, wet or bloody) and feels great in the hand. The balance is perfect for chopping and slicing and decent for point-work. The premium leather sheath is outstanding. It's rides well, looks good and feels great.
If you're looking for a Bowie-sized "utility and fighting knife" then you'd be wise to consider adding the Kabar Big Brother to your arsenal. Utility and fighting is what this knife was designed for, and designed quite well. Get one today at OsoGrandeKnives.com.

Cold Steel has given a breath of new life to the classic Smatchet of WWII. Famed for service in the trenches, the rubble-strewn streets and the thick jungle, it carved out a reputation for ferocious effectiveness that still resounds today.
The Smatchet Knife (originally designed by Col. Rex Applegate) gained most of it's fame and glory in trench warfare. The Smatchet was all about function. Its flat, heavy blade struck fear into the enemy and provided a distinct psychological edge to the wielder. Just holding a Smatchet instilled confidence and a grim determination for getting the job done. Its very name became a byword for guts, glory and bravery.
The new 2013 Cold Steel Smatchet Machete is a formidable cutting tool that can only be described as part machete and part short sword. It features the instantly recognizable broad and flat spear point blade but instead of having double edges it has one sharpened edge and one false edge. The rugged weather-proof polypropylene handle is contoured, comfortable and virtually unbreakable with a strong steel reinforced guard and an oversized lanyard hole.
The 1055 Carbon Steel blade of the Smatchet comes fully sharpened and coated with a durable baked on rust resistant matte finish. A Cor-Ex™ sheath is included.
When you feel the comforting heft of the Smatchet hanging from your belt or pack in you'll feel the confidence that comes from having a knife that can handle the very worst that the world has to throw at you. The Smatchet is affordable, strong, reliable, the built to survive. Specifications:
Blade Length: 14"
Overall Length: 19 3/4"
Steel: 1055 Carbon Steel w/ Black Baked on Anti Rust Matte Finish
Machetes are the "Do it All" of outdoor knives and certainly one of the most useful edged tools on the planet. For brush clearing, trail blazing, shelter building, crop harvesting, meal prep, hunting and last ditch self-defense they're hard to beat.
When we handled the SOGfari Tanto Machete we noted it was lightweight and the balance was spot on. The kraton handle provided a great grip and was comfortable during extended use. When you whip it through the air it really sings.
The sawback cuts deep and is a nice addition to the machete's usefulness. There is also a spiked tang for pounding and scraping on the butt end. To make a survival spear simply can mount the tanto machete to a stick using the lanyard holes on the handle.
