SOG Escape Folding Rescue Knife

Don't know about you, but the world seems to be getting more complicated. The SOG Escape Knife acknowledges this and provides a solution for you. As a general knife, it is the perfect size for everyday carry but still has a tremendous amount of capability with its one hand-opening blade. Integrated in the handle is a line cutter (perfect for cutting cord, string, seat belts, etc.), a glass breaker for extreme emergencies, a patent-pending wire stripper, and extra line cutter blades (which are stored under the handle slab). All this combined with a stout partially serrated spear point blade and hard anodized aluminum handle, says I'm ready for whatever might come my way. Check out all the SOG Knives at OsoGrandeKnives.com.

New ESEE Candiru Knives

Spyderco Schempp Tuff Folding Knife

New Product - Spyderco C151GTIP Schempp Tuff Folding Knife. The Schempp Tuff is a knife that was designed to literally live up to its name. The brainchild of renowned custom knifemaker and designer Ed Schempp, it reflects his deep understanding of what it takes to make a tool that is both highly functional and practically indestructible. The Schempp Tuff was conceived as a folding knife that would epitomize the qualities of toughness and durability while still providing superior edge geometry and cutting performance. To ensure that it remained practical for everyday carry, he also focused on making the knife as versatile and lightweight as possible by incorporating advanced design features and state-of-the-art materials. The result is an amazingly strong folding knife that showcases best-in-class design, materials, and manufacturing processes. The heart of the Schempp Tuff is its stout blade, which is meticulously machined and ground from Crucible CPM 3V steel. This relatively simple steel is produced through the particle metallurgy process, an advanced manufacturing method that involves mixing the component alloys of the steel in powdered form before sintering it at extreme temperatures to produce the finished material. This ensures maximum uniformity of the steel and allows the alloys, including molybdenum and vanadium, to be evenly distributed throughout the steel matrix for enhanced strength and toughness. The Schempp Tuff's plain-edged drop-point blade is an impressive 4mm (0.157 inch) thick. It is flat ground and features a machined fuller (groove) parallel to the spine to reduce weight, increase strength, and reduce friction during cutting. It also features a forefinger choil that allows you to shift your grip forward for maximum control and power during demanding cutting chores. The handle is constructed of a G-10 scale and stainless steel liner on one side and a solid titanium scale on the other. This structure provides extreme strength and, together with a custom-machined oversized pivot assembly, provides the foundation of the knife's Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) mechanism. The lock is integral to the titanium scale, features a hardened steel interface that ensures precise, long-wearing engagement of the blade's lock ramp and serves as an overtravel stop for the lock bar. Both handle scales are CNC machined with a dimpled texture pattern for an enhanced grip while still allowing the knife to be drawn smoothly from the pocket. The titanium scale and stainless liner provide solid anchor points for a four-position hourglass clip for tip-up or tip-down carry on both the left or right side. The handle also has a generous lanyard hole that allows the attachment of a fob or a lanyard for extra security.  Check them out at OsoGrandeKnives.com.

Two is One, One is None

That is the preparedness axiom of always carrying more than one kind of a tool at a time.  Basically it means that if you only have one of something important, you can't count on it, because  no tool is perfect and it WILL eventually break, fail, be lost, or stolen, or otherwise will not perform its required function.  For example, I always carry two knives (oftentimes more) -- that way I'll never be without a trusty blade.   So ‘two is one’ is effectively saying that having two of one thing is sufficient to count as one, while only carrying one of them isn’t really that safe at all.

The "Two is one, one is none" / "One is none, two is one" mantra originated with the Navy Seals.  It's not an excuse to carry extra gear, but rather a practice in redundancy based on the premise that if an item can fail, it will. If you can lose it, it’s lost. If it malfunctions, you won’t have time to fix it. It’s a reminder to help save your life and complete whatever your mission is successfully.

The "two is one, one is none" maxim applies to a plethora of things, from spare tires, second cars, double computer backups, etc... Today though we are talking about how it applies to the EDC (Every-Day-Carry) world and outdoor lifestyle.

I try to keep my gear as light as possible but there are a few items that I don't sacrifice strength and utility for a little weight savings.  These are the most important items I take with me whenever I go overnight hiking or backpacking:
Do you have redundancies built into your kit? I strongly recommend that you do!

Spyderco FB30GP Southfork Hunting Fixed Blade

Just in!  The Spyderco Southfork Hunting Knife.  Phil Wilson was bitten by the knifemaking bug in 1985. While filleting cod, he discovered first-hand he preferred a finger-guard segregating the blade from the handle to stop the hand from sliding forward onto the cutting edge. His fishing knives feature long flexible blades using superior edge-holding steels. His Southfork's finger guard positions the index finger and remaining three fingers on the handle ready for extended use and ergonomic control. Upswept tip and full-flat blade offer just the right amount of belly for field dressing, cleaning and nearly any and all outdoor chores. Check them out at OsoGrandeKnives.com.

It's chemistry includes niobium, vanadium and chromium carbides and offers an exceptionally uniform distribution of those carbides, too. In other words, this high-performance knife can take whatever you can dish out. Designed by Rick Hinderer.  Check them out at OsoGrandeKnives.com.

Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri Plus Review

NEW Gurkha Kukri Plus: With Integral guard for added security when blocking or parrying. The Kukri knife, with its markedly downward curved blade, has long been identified with the Gurkha Warriors of Nepal, the ferocious mercenaries who have wielded this blade for over 150 years in the service of the British Empire.

The Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri was inspired by Cold Steel President, Lynn C. Thompson's close association with Dr. Maung Gyi, chief instructor of the American Bando Association, and a renowned martial artist with wide-ranging knowledge and skills. Under Dr. Gyi's tutelage, Lynn gained insight into the full potential of the Khukri and learned it was not just a chopping weapon but a piercing, slashing, and smashing weapon as well. Smashing techniques allow Kukris to function as a hammer or mallet or to deliver non-lethal blows in a self-defense role. A concentrated blow with the back of the blade can break bones or be lethal if directed at the head.
With Dr. Gyi's input, Thompson designed a longer, narrower point for the Gurkha Kukri with more distal tapering to the spine. This resulted in a thinner, sharper point which can be deeply driven into thick, tough targets with minimal effort.
Finally a masterfully designed Kraton handle was added to maximize the blade's fierce potential. Perfectly contoured and deeply checkered, it offers a superb non-slip grip and cushions the hand from the shock of the hardest blow.
Each Gurkha Kukri is supplied with a Secure-Ex sheath to protect the blade and allow you to wear it safely and securely on your side always ready to defend you and your loved ones.
Specifications: Blade Length: 12", Overall Length: 17", Steel: SK-5 High Carbon, Weight: 22.9 oz., Blade Thickness: 5/16", Handle: 5" Long. Kraton, Sheath: Secure-Ex Sheath.
