Goodbye Fanny Pack, Hello Ribz Front Pack

The new RIBZ front pack is a great addition to your gear! An excellent choice for hikers, kayakers, bikers, ultralight backpackers and recreational photographers.  It  distributes gear evenly along un-used portions of the body where you can reach it!  Anyone who needs quick access to gear will love the Ribz front pack
It's made of 210d water resistant ripstop nylon. All components are water resistant and have proven durability in the most extreme of conditions. Available in two sizes with 500+ or 700+ cubic inches, you can comfortably carry up to 10 pounds in the front packs. The pack weighs only 10.7 oz.

The use of a front pack positions a portion of your weight forward which reduces your overall shoulder stress and increases comfort, mobility and balance. A front pack also creates the illusion of carrying a lighter load.

Though the RIBZ front pack was designed with ultralight backpacking intentions, any outdoor activity where easy access of equipment is critical is where it proves beneficial. RIBZ front pack can be used alone as a vest but is primarily designed to work with your existing backpack as a means of increased functionality.

Spyderco Manix2 Folding Knife C101PBK2

The lightweight Manix2 has arrived and is drawing praise and winning accolades, including Blade Magazine's 2010 Most Innovative American Design.

Like its G-10 handled counterpart, the lightweight Manix2 features the Ball Bearing Lock. The lock operates around a free-floating ball bearing contained inside a custom polymer cage. The ball bearing's round shape allows the lock to self-adjust across a large surface ensuring smooth and consistent lock-up every time it is engaged. The Ball Bearing Lock is engineered to be self contained meaning there is no need for internal liners to support it, allowing the folder to be manufactured liner-free and extraordinarily light weight.

The EdgeTek FRCP (fiberglass reinforced co-polymer) handle is black with a series of jimped areas molded around the handle's perimeter. Additionally Bi-Directional Texturing covers both sides of the handle scale making the folder better for gripping in wet or uncertain conditions.

The blade is made from newly released BD-1 Carpenter steel. BD-1 is gaining the attention of knife enthusiasts for its high carbon and chromium content that is rust-resistant while offering enduring edge retention. The blade is flat-ground with spine and choil jimping and an oversized Spyderco Round Hole.

An ambidextrous, tip-up wire silhouette pocket clip and screw-together handle construction make the folder user friendly with several carry options.

Down Under Knives The Razorback Hunting Knife

We have seen a lot of heavy blade style hunting knives that got it almost right.  The New Razorback™ has all the features that work and none of the awkward blockiness often associated with this kind of knife. Not satisfied with making yet another slab of metal with as many sharp angles as you can fit in 12 inches of steel, the guys at Down Under Knives gave it pleasing curves and traditional materials that knife enthusiasts love. This one feels even better than it looks!

The back of the blade has a gentle downward curve for easy skinning and a bone cracker cut to avoid accidental piercing and to provide help in guiding the blade. The rear portion of the back has a razor sharp whittling edge for easy kindling, and the front heavy blade profile provides all the chopping and cutting power this style is famous for. The semi-full tang construction and full leather handle provide a sure grip in all conditions, wet or dry. Add a uniquely styled heavy leather sheath with genuine bone ornaments and a quick-release catch, and we figure this one's going to be tough to beat for a specialized hunting/camping knife.

Specifications:

  • Overall length: 307mm - 12"
  • Blade length: 180mm - 7"
  • Width: 50mm - 2"
  • Blade Thickness: 5.5mm - 0.216"

California Court Overturns Erroneous Switchblade Ruling

Dec. 3, 2012: In a victory for law-abiding knife owners, the California Court of Appeals last week reversed a lower court's absurd expansive ruling that a knife that could be "wrist-flicked" open was a "switchblade." The lower court made the faulty ruling despite an explicit provision in California law that distinguishes and protects one-hand opening and assisted-opening knives with a bias towards closure and despite prior Appellate Court rulings upholding that exception. These common folding knives represent over 80% of the U.S. market and the legislature clearly wanted them to be legal when they clarified the original switchblade law.:

Click on "Read More>>>>" for additional details and a link to the judge's well-written opinion.
"Switchblade knife" does not include a knife that opens with one hand utilizing thumb pressure applied solely to the blade of the knife or a thumb stud attached to the blade, provided that the knife has a detent or other mechanism that provides resistance that must be overcome in opening the blade, or that biases the blade back toward its closed position.

This is essentially the same exemption that was added to the Federal Switchblade Act as a result of Knife Rights' and its partners' efforts to clarify the federal definition in 2009. We laud the Appeals Court on its decision and a well-written opinion, but it is unfortunate that the defendant had to undergo the extreme harassment and stress to him and his family and friends that comes with such an experience due to the ignorance and apparent anti-knife bias of the law enforcement officer, prosecutors and the lower court involved. We'd also like to acknowledge the successful efforts of the defendant's court appointed lawyer who clearly presented a strong defense. Hopefully, this will be the end of this sordid travesty of justice by the state and there will be no further appeal. You can read the Appeals Court opinion here:

This is a perfect example of why Knife Rights is working aggressively and proactively to change knife laws in our country. As we eliminate irrational knife laws prohibiting certain types of knives, or clarify existing knife laws to protect common folding knives, we ensure fewer law-abiding citizens will fall victim to similar bias and ignorance. Knife Law Preemption, pioneered by Knife Rights and now the law in four states, ensures that citizens can expect uniform enforcement throughout their state. We cannot wait for more bad things to happen before fixing the law; we have to change the law for the better NOW!

Three New Spyderco Enuff Fixed Blades

Just In! All three Enuff knives feature skeletonized full-tang construction for strength and light weight. Available in your choice of a clip point, leaf shaped or sheepfoot blade.  The blades are ground from VG-10 stainless steel, a workhorse material that offers a superior balance of cutting performance, corrosion resistance, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. The clip point and leaf-shaped blades are both plain edged and full-flat ground to yield exceptional edge geometry for precision cutting chores and point utility.

All three Enuff blades have a thoughtfully placed section of jimping (grooved texture) on the spine for enhanced control during use. They also feature identical scales injection molded from durable fiberglass-reinforced nylon. The scales are contoured to provide a hand-filling grip and boast Spyderco's signature Bi-Directional Texturing™ pattern--a series of opposing angled steps radiating out from the center of the handle to ensure superior traction and a non-slip grip.
The handle shape brackets the hand comfortably, providing both a functional guard to prevent it from moving forward and a gently hooked butt for control during pull cuts and ease of drawing from the sheath. A generously sized lanyard hole also allows the attachment of a fob or lanyard for additional security.

All three Enuff knives use the same sheath design. Injection molded from polymer, it features two "ears" at the mouth that snap around the leading edge of the handle scales to hold the knife securely in place when sheathed. A thumb "push-off" on one side of the mouth supports an easy draw with simple thumb pressure, while the universal design of the sheath cavity allows all three knives to be inserted with the edge facing in either direction. All Enuff sheaths come complete with Spyderco's versatile G-Clip attachment, which supports both belt carry and clip-style inside-the-waistband carry. The G-Clip is configurable for vertical, horizontal, or diagonally canted carry and can be attached to both sides and both faces of the symmetrical sheath. The sheath also includes multiple mounting holes to allow both high and low-ride attachment of the G-Clip.

Specifications:
  • Overall Length: 6.75" (171 mm)
  • Blade Length: 2.75" (70 mm)
  • Blade Thickness: 0.157" (4.0 mm)

The Good Soldier - Cold Steel 17T Kobun

The Kobun® is a lightweight Tanto styled boot knife. It takes its namesake from the Japanese martial, or underworld where the word "Kobun" means "soldier". It's a fitting name for a knife like the Kobun®, which was effectively designed to be "a good soldier". In profile it closely resembles our Master Tanto, but it sports a thinner blade, and that supports its main function; to be a light weight boot knife.

Like our Tantos, it features the Tanto styled reinforced point. This contrasts sharply with most boot knives on the market today which are notorious for their paper thin points which are easily broken or bent. In contrast, the Kobun's® point is highly resistant to bending or breaking because it is reinforced by the full thickness of the blade's spine which runs almost to the very tip of the blade.
The Kobun's® deeply checkered Kraton® handle is designed to offer minimum bulk with maximum grip. Its cross section was made as thin as possible (approximately 1/2 inch), then contoured to resist turning or shifting in the hand. The Kobun® comes complete with a Secure- Ex® sheath.
The Cold Steel Kobun Knife features a thin 5.5" tanto blade made of AUS-8A stainless steel, .125" thick, with a satin finish. The deeply checkered black Kraton handle has a lined lanyard hole. A Secure-Ex boot/belt sheath with multiple lashing holes is included. Overall length: 9.875". Weight: 4.4 ounces.
